SEISMIC POWER RATINGS™

When comparing bowling balls it is often difficult to describe which ball is "stronger" or "hooks more", purely because bowling balls are designed for different "purposes" on different lane conditions. On one oil pattern, a sanded "hook monster" may out-hook your strong pearl by 10 boards because the pearl never gets a chance to grip the lane, while on a lighter pattern the sanded ball will burn up earlier and appear to hook less than your pearl.

So, to allow us to better describe the "strength" of a ball when used on the appropriate condition and in comparison with other balls, we have developed a "Power Rating" for all Seismic balls, new and old, to give you a little more insight!

How are Power Ratings calculated?

Very simply, each Seismic ball is rated between zero and 100 for four different categories. The "length" it will get on an average condition, the potential strength of the ball in the mid-lane, the friction created by the ball's cover in oil, and the friction created by the ball's cover in the dry. These numbers are then added to give a total score, and generate the Power Rating.

With four categories, the maximum score possible would be 400, however in practise this would not be achievable - for this we would need to test a ball that "rolls at your feet", achieves the ultimate amount of torque in the mid-lane, grips the lane in heavy oil like a sanded particle ball, AND grip the dry like an aggressive pearl. In reality, this isn't possible, so there will be no "increasing the max" with the Seismic Power Rating!

While Power Ratings cannot give definitive answer to "which is stronger" it will allow you to compare balls more accurately before testing, and when read in conjunction with the ball definitions describing their reaction, will give you all the ammunition you need to build a complimentary arsenal.

We would love to hear feedback from bowlers with Seismic balls and how YOU would rate each of our balls, especially if you have several balls.
